ZYON Helmets, a Spanish startup, has opened pre-orders for its first high-tech helmet after two years of development. Dubbed the “smartest” helmet on the market, it has features rarely found in a single product. These include a pollution filtration system, integrated rear brake light, and electronic sensors for added safety.
The helmet has a four-layer disposable filter consisting of H13 HEPA and activated carbon layers. It is capable of removing more than 99% of pollutants, toxic gases, dust, and allergens while driving. There is a large air intake in the chin area and twin exhausts at the back to ensure clean air to breathe. Each filter lasts one to three months and comes with 12 pieces. The helmet also has a sensor to know when the filter needs to be replaced.
It comes with a mobile app that can be downloaded to monitor air quality before and after filtration. In addition, there is a crash detection system with GPS auto-alert to notify your emergency contacts in the event of an accident. It also uses a wear and tear algorithm that tells you when it's time to replace the helmet. The ZYON is certified to ECE 22.06 and has MIPS for added protection.
