The heinous crime took place in Kibawe, Bukidnon, where a 75-year-old grandmother nicknamed Lola Mameng was burned alive after being mistaken for a witch by a man who was a former drug user.
According to the report, before noon on July 26, the suspect, Berto, 37-year-old, stopped the old man. He beat him with a dry coconut shell until he lost consciousness.
Then, Berto covered the body with dry leaves, coconut husks, and wood before setting it on fire. It is believed that the victim still had a pulse when he was set on fire.
P/Major Jayvee Babaan of the Bukidnon Police said that the suspect who previously surrendered to the drug campaign may have mental problems.
Two days later, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities and the case is currently being investigated.
