The legendary rock singer and Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, his family said in a statement. He died just weeks after his epic farewell concert in Birmingham, England, his hometown.
According to his family, "Ozzy passed away this morning, surrounded by family and love." They have also asked for privacy during their time of grief. Osbourne was known as the “Prince of Darkness” and became a part of rock history for his intense performances and controversial life.
Ozzy rose to fame as a pioneer of heavy metal music with Black Sabbath in the 1970s. Their song “Paranoid” is one of the world's most popular. The band has sold over 75 million albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Last year, Ozzy was inducted as a solo artist.
Despite having Parkinson’s disease since 2019 and sustaining injuries from a fall and a previous accident, he has continued to make music. He released his 12th studio album in 2020 and performed his final concert called “Back to the Beginning” in front of 40,000 fans.
Many famous personalities paid tribute, including Elton John and Ronnie Wood, who recognized Ozzy as not only a legend but also a funny person. At the final concert, Ozzy said: "Thank you for your support. This is the last song."
