
The youth riot in Sampaloc, Manila on the afternoon of July 15 resulted in the arrest of 3 men and the rescue of 3 minors. In CCTV footage on Lacson Avenue, Barangay 411, a group of youths can be seen running and throwing stones while carrying sticks and umbrellas as shields.
According to member Anton Salvador, an estimated 20 youths were involved in the trouble. He said they immediately went to the scene, but some youths left immediately and the riot continued on Lacson Avenue.
This is not the first time this has happened. Salvador said it feels like their barangay is being turned into a "battlefield". Passersby in the area are also affected. Several vehicles and motorists were hit by bottles but no one was injured.
In Mayor Isko Moreno's live update, he confirmed the capture of the 6 involved, including 3 minors. The children were returned to their parents while the three men aged 20, 21, and 28 are in the custody of the Manila Police and have been charged with alarm and scandal.
Police are still investigating who the other youths involved in the riot are. One of the arrested suspects is a resident of Barangay 409, according to councilor Kevin Batac.
