The riding-in-tandem was arrested after stealing a cellphone from a vendor in Barangay Bel Air, Makati City early Monday morning. According to PCol. Reycon Garduque, chief of the Makati Police, the victim was on his way home when he was confronted by armed suspects in Malugay Street, Barangay San Antonio.
PCol. Garduque said that while the victim was walking, the suspects took his cellphone. “They pointed at him, grabbed him, and then the suspects ran away,” he added. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a jersey with the logo of the ride-hailing app, which could be a way for them to appear legitimate.
The victim sought help from the policemen who were on duty, who immediately chased the suspects. Within three minutes, the operatives were able to catch up with the suspects due to the presence of the police in the area. Two firearms and a hand grenade were confiscated from them, and the victim's cellphone worth P14,000 was also returned.
During the investigation, the two suspects were implicated in a case of possession of drugs and theft. They refused to give any explanation, and are in the custody of the Makati Police Station. They are facing charges of robbery, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and illegal possession of explosives.
