President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally led the destruction of P9.48 billion worth of illegal drugs at a facility in Capas, Tarlac. This included more than a ton of “floating shabu” found in the waters of Zambales, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan.
Among the items destroyed were liquid shabu, marijuana, Ecstasy, cocaine, and other illegal drugs and expired medicines. According to Marcos, it is important to ensure that the confiscated drugs cannot return to the streets.
Also present at the activity were Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, PDEA Chief Isagani Nerez, and Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Oscar Valenzuela, along with other government officials. The drugs were burned after it was determined that they were no longer needed as evidence in court.
No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in connection with the “floating shabu.” According to the report, the value of shabu confiscated since June 2022 has reached P62 billion.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Sara Duterte criticized the President's photo op. She said, it's not the President's job to pose for pictures every time there's a drug bust. She said it's more important to show the real progress in the lives of Filipinos, not just in photos. She added, the true results of the bloodless drug war will only be known at the end of Marcos' term.
