A 14-year-old girl was rescued from prostitution inside a hotel in Binondo, Manila on the night of June 20. Two suspects were arrested in an operation conducted by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The victim and her mother had previously filed a complaint regarding a previous incident of abuse in exchange for money. After the report was confirmed, the child was immediately taken into care with the help of social agencies for her medical and psychological needs.
A week after the complaint, the suspects again attempted to book the child online. As a result, a rescue and entrapment operation was immediately launched, where the suspects were arrested and digital evidence was recovered.
The suspects will be charged under Republic Act No. 9208, as amended by RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012. The minor continues to be in protective custody.
According to NCRPO Regional Director MGen. Anthony Aberin, it is important for the police to act quickly in cases involving minors, in accordance with the order of PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III. The public is encouraged to immediately report any type of abuse, because even a small piece of information can result in immediate action.
