Students in San Fernando City, La Union are no longer allowed to use backpacks to school. According to Schools Division Superintendent Shiela Marie Primicias, it is safer to use transparent bags so that its contents can be easily seen.
The purpose of this ban is to prevent the carrying of illegal items such as cigarettes, vapes, sharp objects, guns, bullets, and other dangerous equipment. This was issued through an official memorandum for all school heads in the city.
Primicias added that this is part of the measures to ensure the safe and proper learning of children. Teachers were also reminded to implement the said rules in their respective schools.
The police have also deployed additional forces to schools in Central Luzon. According to Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, there are 420 police officers helping to maintain peace and security.
There are also 225 police assistance desks around schools. Its goal is to immediately respond to reports of bullying, robbery, snatching, and other crimes.
