Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, is now removing fake news more quickly, especially about the elections. According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Meta is deleting it within just an hour.
DICT Secretary Henry R. Aguda praised Meta's action. Based on a report by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), there has been a significant improvement in the speed of removing misinformation online.
Aguda said this is a big deal in the fight against fake news. However, Meta should not stop here. The fighting against deception should continue, even after the election is over.
Aguda also urged other social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok to do their part as well. He said everyone needs to be active to protect the public from misleading news.
Meta's quick action will help in safer and more authentic use of social media, especially during this election season.
