6-Year-Old Palestinian Loses Arm Due to Israeli Airstrike

A 6-year-old Palestinian child, Ghada Dabebech, lost her right arm after being hit by an airstrike from Israel on Thursday, April 3. According to her father, Ahmed Dabebech, while Ghada was playing on a swing in a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, she was suddenly hit by an explosion. Despite the trials, the family hopes that Ghada will have the opportunity to receive treatment and obtain a prosthetic limb abroad, should the border crossing open.

According to Gaza's health authorities, more than 27 people, including women and children, were killed in an airstrike that hit the Dar Al-Arqam School, a school that had been used as a temporary shelter for families. Many families had crowded into it to seek safety from the violence.

The Israeli military said that Hamas militants were using the building as a command center, making it the target of the airstrike. Hamas, however, stated that they do not use civilian structures for their operations. They are trying to prove that the airstrikes involve a risk to the lives of innocent people.

Due to the ongoing operations of Israel, there have been heavy airstrikes since March 18. Their attacks intensified after a two-month pause in operations, during which 38 hostages were released in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. However, negotiations between countries such as Egypt and Qatar have still not resumed.

According to the UN Humanitarian Agency OCHA, 280,000 displaced people in Gaza in just two weeks, including families repeatedly affected by the war. As the fighting continues, Israel says it is doing everything it can to reduce casualties, but despite this, hundreds of Palestinians have died.
