A viral video on social media shows men assaulting a disabled senior citizen in Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo on Monday, March 31, 2025. In the video, a man can be seen approaching the elderly woman, grabbing her by both arms, and lifting her up and down with his knee. As this happens, other men nearby can be heard laughing.
According to Barangay Chairman Jeff Fernan, the people in the video are related, and he said the grandmother has had a mental disorder since she was a child. The men are used to playing with their grandmother, but they allegedly took the prank too far. Fernan added that it was no longer a joke because it had caused the old man pain, who could not speak properly and did not understand what was happening.
The grandmother's nephew expressed his anger at what was done to his aunt, who had taken care of him when he was a child. According to the nephew, it was painful to see the grandmother, who is disabled, being treated like this, and what happened was no joke.
An hour after the video was posted, the four men in the video were immediately summoned to the barangay. Fernan explained to them that their actions were punishable by law. The men were fined and possibly imprisoned under Republic Act 9442, the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities.
While the men apologized, the complaining relative insisted on continuing the complaint to hold them accountable, so the barangay gave him a certificate to file action to file a formal case with the PNP.
