A 26-year-old woman was arrested in Cotabato City after being caught offering dental braces without a license. According to Police Lt. Wallen Mae Arancillo of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group trapped the suspect identified as “Jaja” in an entrapment operation on March 12.

The Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (RACU-BAR) discovered his Facebook post where he introduced himself as a dentist and offered braces installation for P1,000, including materials, labor, and cleaning. When confirmed by the Philippine Dental Association, they found out that he did not have a license for this service.

"Jaja" was caught after he tried to attach braces to an undercover police asset inside his house. It was also learned that he was not using proper sterilization equipment, but simply hot water to clean his equipment. According to the police, this is not safe and can cause infection to patients.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a shortage of professional dentists in the Philippines, which is why many people are looking for cheap dental services. However, the PNP-ACG reminded the public to be wary of services that are "too good to be true", as they can cost more if dental complications arise.

"Jaja" is now facing charges of illegal practice of dentistry under Republic Act 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007, as well as for violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175)
