Marc Marquez will enter the 2026 MotoGP season as the reigning champion, after winning his third title in six years with the Ducati Lenovo team in 2025. In an exclusive interview, Marquez shared the hardships of his comeback, the mental strength needed after a series of surgeries and rehabilitation from 2020 to 2023.
Despite the victory, Marquez admitted that he is not yet in peak condition after injury to his right shoulder last year. He is in the “last steps” of rehabilitation and is riding a bike again to prepare for the season opener. Regarding his engine, he mentioned that the 2026 Ducati Desmosedici is just a “small upgrade” and not a major change, due to the engine freeze rules before the major changes in 2027.
One of the highlights of the interview was his unique rivalry with his brother Alex Marquez, who finished second place in last year's championship. Marc referred to Alex as his “number one rival” for 2026. Although they train together and live in the same house, the on-track competition remains intense. “If he beats you, I'll defend my color,” Marquez said, showing that at 30 and 33, the dynamics of their careers have changed.
Despite the pressure to win again, Marquez stressed that his passion for MotoGP remains strong, but his approach to risk has changed. He relies more on experience and instinct than the “all-in” mentality of youth. For him, MotoGP is not just about speed and action, but also about strong thinking and making the right decisions at the right time.
The 2026 MotoGP season will begin soon, and Marc Marquez is ready to defend his title while facing both racing and his brother's challenges. His comeback is a testament to resilience, determination, and love for the sport, inspiring young people and MotoGP fans around the world.
