Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla issued a statement regarding allegations of corruption leveled by a Russian vlogger while he was in detention in the Philippines. According to the secretary, the government is taking the allegations seriously and is ready to act based on the results of the investigation.
The vlogger's statements came out in an online livestream, where he claimed that he had access to a cellphone in exchange for giving money to the guard. Because of this, Remulla said that if it is proven that the foreigner himself offered or gave the bribe, he could be charged and extradited back to his country.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that an internal investigation has been conducted, including a raid on the facility and removal of personnel found to be negligent. The government stressed that the individual is considered a undesirable alien and permanently barred from returning to the Philippines, regardless of the statements he continues to make online.
