A crocodile was spotted in the pool of a luxury hotel in Port Douglas, Australia this weekend. A tourist posted a video on social media showing the young crocodile lying underwater while other guests were relaxing by the pool.
In the video, Lisa Keller can be heard saying: "I don’t want to alarm anyone but there’s a crocodile in the Sheraton pool." As she speaks, it can be seen that no guests have approached the water and no one seems to be particularly worried.
According to hotel manager Joseph Amerio, the crocodile was spotted Saturday morning and the pool was immediately closed. Around noon, wildlife officers arrived and safely removed the animal. They also made sure that no guests bathed with the crocodile.
Wildlife rangers also confirmed that the crocodile was removed and taken to a safe place on October 18. They also put up crocodile warning signs to warn people.
It is estimated that more than 100,000 crocodiles live in northern Australia, including large saltwater crocodiles and more gentle freshwater crocodiles. This incident is a reminder to tourists that even in luxury hotels costing around ₱18,000 and up per night, wildlife still remains around.
