Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla is the country's new Ombudsman. He replaces Samuel R. Martires whose term ended in July.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced Remulla’s appointment on October 7. According to the Presidential Communications Office, under his leadership at the DOJ, the modernization of the justice system, decongestion of prisons, expeditious resolution of cases, and broader access to legal services were promoted.
Malacañang emphasized that Remulla, as a former legislator, governor, and lawyer, is respected for his integrity and commitment to public service. He is expected to strengthen the fight against corruption, ensure transparency, and implement fair justice.
According to the 1987 Constitution, the Ombudsman is responsible for handling cases against government officials, including serious violations and complaints involving large amounts of money or property.
Remulla will hold his position for seven years, until the year 2032.
