The all-new Honda Prelude has quickly become a sales success in Japan. Even though it resembles a two-door Prius and uses the 2.0-liter hybrid engine of the Civic e:HEV, it still appeals to many—especially those in their 50s and 60s.
A month after its release, total orders have reached 2,400 units. This is far from the monthly sales target of 300 units or almost ₱13.4 million per month if converted from Japan prices. It has strong appeal as a secondary car for older buyers.
The Prelude wasn't exactly marketed as a pure sports car, but buyers were pleased with the large cargo space that could fit two golf bags or two suitcases. In addition, the wide and low design, as well as the good suspension and chassis performance, were also praised.
The most popular color is Moonlit White Pearl (63%), followed by Meteoroid Gray Metallic (16%), Crystal Black Pearl (11%), and Flame Red (10%). The “younger” Boost Blue is rarely chosen.
Due to its good reception in Japan, there is talk that the Prelude may also be released in the Philippines. If this happens, there is a big chance that it will also capture the interest of lovers of classic sporty coupes.
