The UP Fighting Maroons downed the previously undefeated Ateneo Blue Eagles, 83-69, in their UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball match at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Francis Nnoruka led UP with 28 points, 21 of which came in the second half. He also had 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 block. Rey Remogat contributed 20 points, while Harold Alarcon had 17 points.
The match was tight in the first half, with UP trailing 40-38. But in the third quarter, the Maroons' offense exploded, led by Remogat and Nnoruka. They scored 22 of UP's 24 points in that quarter, pulling away 64-49.
The Blue Eagles tried to catch up, but were overwhelmed after Remogat's three-pointer made it 79-60 with 3:18 left in the game. The defending champions now have a 3-2 record, while Ateneo drops to 4-1 and National University is tied for first place.
