The PNP arrested five traffic enforcers from LTO Region II in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya on the night of September 2, 2025, after receiving a complaint about extortion from local drivers. The operation was initiated as an entrapment against possible corruption but uncovered a more serious crime.
According to the report, LTO enforcers have offered to adjust the PHP 200,000 fine to just PHP 25,000. They also have an alternative “butaw” or monthly payment: PHP 1,000 per unit, and PHP 2,000 for green plate vans. Vans without a valid franchise from the LTFRB are allowed to operate as long as they pay a fee.
During the investigation, police found shabu, drug paraphernalia, and PHP 67,800 in cash. Three illegal firearms were also seized: two .45 calibers and one 9mm, along with ammunition.
Now, the enforcers will face legal and administrative charges, including violations of the Anti-Graft Law, Code of Conduct, Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and Comprehensive Firearms Law.
There is still no official statement from the LTO regarding the incident.
