Contractor Sarah Discaya is back in the news after appearing before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the issue of flood control projects on September 1. Here, the senators asked her about her role in their construction firms.
As the investigation heated up, many netizens paid more attention to Discaya's resemblance to Michael V (Bitoy). Photos and clips of the hearing went viral, and it was quickly turned into memes and jokes online. Even the popular comedy show that Bitoy is a part of got involved and made a funny edit.
Many Filipinos are hoping that a parody or skit will be made of this to make the public laugh even more. Despite the jokes, the talk about the ghost projects and the alleged special relationship of the Discaya family with some officials of the DPWH is still serious.
Another item discussed in the Senate was the collection of luxury cars of the Discaya family. According to the BOC, they executed a search warrant at the Pasig office of the family company. Of the 12 vehicles that were supposed to be inspected, only two were located, while the value of the missing cars is estimated at ₱60 million.
Meanwhile, Discaya did not attend another hearing at the House Infrastructure Committee along with four other contractors who were invited, further raising doubts about him and their projects.
