The civil defense agency in Gaza reported that 20 people were killed, including 5 journalists, after an airstrike hit the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. The dead included a photojournalist and several media workers who were covering the situation.
According to the report, a drone first hit the hospital building, followed by another airstrike while the wounded were being rescued. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the incident was a “tragic mistake” and expressed condolences for the civilians and journalists affected.
Some of the dead journalists were identified as Mariam Dagga, Mohammad Salama, and Hussam al-Masri. Another journalist, Hassan Douhan, was also killed in a separate attack in Khan Yunis.
Witnesses described thick smoke, bloody bodies, and people rushing to rescue victims. Nasser Hospital is one of the few remaining functioning hospitals in Gaza, so its hit caused deep fear.
The families of the victims have said that the news coverage will not stop despite the danger. “The coverage will continue, with the help of God,” said Masri’s brother.
