
Typhoon Gorio (international name: Podul) has officially become a typhoon as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA said on Tuesday, August 12.
As of 4 a.m., the center of the storm was located 745 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes. It was moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph. Despite its strength, no tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised in any part of the country.
The habagat or southwest monsoon continues to prevail, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
In Metro Manila and other parts of the country, expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
