The Philippine police conducted a raid on the night of July 2, 2025 at a telecommunications fraud den in Alang Alang, Mandaue City, Cebu. Eight Chinese were arrested and several victims were rescued from being forced to commit online fraud.
The operation was led by the CIDG Special Search Group with teams from Central Visayas, Cebu Province, Cebu City and Mandaue City. They used a search warrant from the court and seized numerous computers, cellphones, and other fraudulent equipment.
The victims' condition was extremely shocking—full of bruises, broken legs, and severe injuries to their hands and feet. They were forced to work while being beaten and tortured—as if in a slave labor camp.
Authorities are considering this a major transnational crime and a thorough investigation has begun. There has been no word yet on whether the Chinese Embassy will be involved.
This incident occurred as the country focused on crackdowns on online gambling and scam operations, where those involved can be imprisoned for up to ten years.
