The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has suspended the operations of a gun factory in Marikina City after a deadly explosion. According to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, the order was immediately issued by DOLE–NCR Director Sarah Mirasol for the Rimfire Department of Armscor Global Defense Inc. (AGDI).
The order is intended to protect the safety of 90 workers while the investigation is underway. Laguesma assured that assistance will be provided to the affected employees.
The explosion on July 7 was allegedly caused by a bullet primer, according to AGDI. Two employees, ages 34 and 44, died while being treated at the hospital. One suffered chest injuries, and the other had both hands amputated. The third worker suffered an eye injury and has returned home to his family.
AGDI confirmed the incident and said they are cooperating with the police. According to CEO Martin Tuason, the company prioritizes the safety of its employees and is providing full support to the families of the victims.
Tuason insisted that they comply with all regulations and safety standards, and that they are regularly inspected by the PNP. AGDI manufactures guns, ammunition, and other equipment for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
