A Grade 12 student was raped by a 32-year-old construction worker in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City on Saturday night, July 5. According to police, the victim was pointed at with a sharp knife while she was returning home after buying supplies for a school project.
The suspect was clearly seen on CCTV following and carrying the victim. According to PMaj. Gilbert Caducano, the suspect even scared the student and took him to a dark part of the subdivision where the crime occurred. The suspect allegedly demanded money after the incident.
They went straight to a convenience store to cash out. Here, the victim had the opportunity to ask for help from people and police who were on patrol. The suspect was immediately arrested with the help of the police.
According to the investigation, the man was drunk when the incident occurred. He also admitted to what he did and apologized, saying he regretted it because he was too drunk. He had only been working as a construction worker in the area for a few weeks.
Currently, the victim is undergoing counseling with the help of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD). The PNP reminds parents to keep a close eye on their children, especially at night, to avoid harm.
