The Bureau of Immigration (BI) conducted an operation in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on May 29, where 39 Chinese nationals were arrested. They are connected to a well-known telecommunications company.
According to the BI, these foreigners do not have valid travel documents, and are in violation of the country's immigration policies. Although they hold work visas, these were issued to other companies that they no longer work for.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said that any foreigner who wants to work in the Philippines must follow the law and due process. He also warned against those who change employers without proper authorization.
The operation was conducted by the BI Intelligence Division with the assistance of the PNP Southern Police District. The arrested persons have been brought to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, pending their deportation proceedings.
According to Commissioner Viado, this step is a clear message that the BI will not let anyone who violates immigration and national security laws go unpunished.
