The Precinct Finder Page of COMELEC recorded 1.27 million hacking attempts on election day itself, according to COMELEC Spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco. This was called a DDoS attack or deliberate denial of service, where the webpage was targeted simultaneously to prevent voters from accessing it.
According to the record, more than 43.7 million visits were recorded on the page, but only 14.11 million legitimate searched for a precinct. This means that millions of accesses came from automated or non-genuine users.
Of the total visits, an estimated 1.27 million were considered cyber attacks that were dealt with by the COMELEC cyber security division.
As a result, the agency's investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the attacks and maintain system security.
