VEJA and Dover Street Market Ginza have unveiled a special capsule of hand-stitched Panenka shoes. They are made by the Sashiko Gals, a group of Japanese women from Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture, who are skilled in the traditional Sashiko – an ancient sewing technique used since the 8th century to repair and enhance old shoes and clothing.
The shoe design is inspired by vintage football trainers and has a unique craft-forward feel due to the hand-sewn stitching using different colors of thread and careful shaping. There are 10 limited editions that will only be sold at Dover Street Market in Tokyo next week. In addition, the project prides itself on preserving the culture and art of renewal, and pays tribute to the excellence of women in their traditional work. Either way, this collaboration is super cool for those who love unique and artisanal designs.
