A man has been arrested after climbing the Elizabeth Tower of Big Ben in London. The incident prompted tight security and lengthy negotiations between police and emergency crews.
According to the report, at around 07:24 GMT on Saturday, the man, barefoot and holding a Palestinian flag, was seen on a ledge of the tower. He refused to come down and negotiations continued for 16 hours.
Using a cherry picker, the man was taken down at midnight, as Big Ben chimed. He was immediately arrested and taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining a leg injury.
The incident led to the closure of Westminster Bridge, an exit at Westminster Underground Station, and the cancellation of tours of the Parliamentary Estate. There was also a small protest at the hospital where a man was arrested after injuring a nurse.
According to the police, they will continue to review the incident to prevent similar incidents in the future.
