A 15-year-old boy from Wisconsin, USA, has been charged with homicide after he allegedly stabbed his mother. According to documents obtained by WISN, Reed Gelinskey was charged with first-degree intentional homicide on March 6 by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
How Did the Crime Occur?
Based on the criminal complaint, Caledonia police received a call after a woman received Snapchat messages from Gelinskey. He was asking for help while allegedly stabbing his mother.
When police arrived at the home on East White Manor Court, Franksville, they found Gelinskey carrying a brown and silver knife. He surrendered and said, “She is dead.”
During the investigation, it was discovered that before stabbing, the victim was first hit with a dumbbell bar. According to a preliminary autopsy, her mother died due to multiple wounds to the chest which caused internal bleeding.
What Causes Crime?
Gelinskey told police that when he came home from school, he was depressed and wanted to kill his parents. He allegedly tried to find a mallet to kill his father, but he couldn't find the right size.
According to the report, Gelinskey had been taking anxiety pills for a long time. That night, he allegedly took nine pills.
When asked why he did it, he replied: "Pain."
Menendez Brothers Documentary Allegedly Influenced
According to police, Gelinskey allegedly imitated scenes from the Netflix documentary The Menendez Brothers, especially the “shotgun scene.”
The Menendez Brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez, were imprisoned in 1996 for the murder of their parents. Their story became one of the most famous crime cases of the late 20th century.
