In the timeline of Gundam GQuuuuuuX, after the RX-78 Gundam is stolen and destroyed, the Earth Federation switches to developing the RX-77-2 Guncannon. From this, the RGM-79 Light Cannon was developed, a mass-produced unit with combined close-range and mid-range combat capabilities.
