Porsche Taycan GTS, Sets World Record in Ice Drift

Porsche has added another achievement to its Taycan lineup, setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous ice drift by an electric vehicle. Behind the wheel of the Taycan GTS, Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter completed 132 laps in a controlled oversteer, covering 17.503 kilometers in 46 minutes at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland.

This record attempt, which took place on January 14, 2025, was not easy. Due to the extreme stress of drifting, the 59-meter ice track quickly broke down, so they had to stop early after 11 kilometers on the first attempt. But after switching to shorter spikes and taking advantage of the cool night temperatures, Richter successfully navigated the Taycan GTS in a seamless drift, eclipsing the previous record of 14.809 kilometers.

"This victory demonstrates the Taycan's excellence in chassis and balance, which has proven its precision even in extreme conditions," said Jens Richter.

Led by Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville, a professional GPS tracking system was used to measure distance, throttle input, steering angle, and G-forces. The Taycan GTS remained in its stock configuration, using Michelin tires with 1mm spikes.

This is the Taycan's fourth Guinness World Record, after previous records were set for altitude change, speed in an enclosed building, and continuous drifting on dry pavement.
