On Thursday, September 19, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, will continue to give moderate to heavy rains in some provinces in Luzon. Although there are fewer affected areas compared to the previous days. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a warning about possible flooding and landslides.

According to PAGASA's latest advisory:

  • From noon on September 19 to noon on September 20: Expect moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm) in Zambales, Bataan, Pangasinan, and Occidental Mindoro.
  • From noon on September 20 to noon on September 21: The same condition will affect Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan.
  • From noon on September 21 to noon on September 22: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte will experience moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm).

In other parts of Luzon and Visayas, expect isolated rains and thunderstorms due to the monsoon. In Mindanao, which is no longer affected by the southwest monsoon, only localized thunderstorms are expected.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the agency is monitoring the clouds in the eastern and western parts of the Philippines that may become low-pressure areas in the near future. But no new tropical cyclones are expected in the next 24 hours.

As of 2024, the Philippines has experienced eight tropical cyclones, of which four occurred in September:

  • Enteng (Yagi): Make landfall in Aurora and cross Northern Luzon before exiting of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as a strong tropical storm.
  • Ferdie (Bebinca): A tropical storm that stayed in PAR for only 8 hours but intensified the southwest monsoon.
  • Gener: A tropical depression that made landfall in Isabela and crossed Northern Luzon.
  • Helen (Pulasan): Isang tropical storm na kahalintulad ni Ferdie, na nagpataas ng southwest monsoon nang hindi direktang nakaapekto sa bansa.

Both Gener and Helen exited PAR on Wednesday, September 18.
