Ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) suspends filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2026 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections. Resolution No. 11183, promulgated Monday, serves as the basis for this suspension.
COC filing was originally set from January 5 to 9, 2026, but the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) has yet to pass a redistricting law necessary for election preparations. Supreme Court previously instructed BTA to finalize parliamentary districts by October 30, 2025.
Comelec emphasized that no districting law has been enacted, prompting suspension to ensure elections align with finalized districts. New filing dates will be announced once BTA enacts the required law.
Earlier this month, Comelec expressed concern over delays as the BTA had not passed the measure. Supreme Court mandated elections to be held no later than March 31, 2026, and warned that alterations without proper law could violate regulations.
