Binatikos si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa pag-appoint umano ng isang Chinese national, si Michael Yang, sa isang executive position sa gobyerno.
Matapos maaresto at madala si Duterte sa International Criminal Court (ICC), binatikos ni Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na inakusahan ng kawalan ng utang na loob.
Ayon kay Baste, pinayagan ng kanyang ama na ilibing si dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Sr. sa Libingan ng mga Bayani noong kanyang termino.
Ngunit sinabi ni Palace Press Officer Claire Castro na nagpasalamat na si Pangulong Marcos kay Duterte.
Paliwanag ni Castro, kahit may utang na loob si Marcos, kailangan pa rin sundin ng gobyerno ang batas. Idiniin niya na si Duterte ay sumunod lamang sa batas nang ilipat ang labi ni Marcos Sr. sa Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Ayon kay Castro, bukod sa utang na loob, mahalaga pa rin na panatilihin ang rule of law. Kasama rito ang pagsunod ng bansa sa mga kasunduan tulad ng commitment sa Interpol.
Tinawag naman ni Castro na "pagtataksil" ang pag-appoint ni Duterte kay Michael Yang.
“Dahil ba sa sinasabing ito ni Mayor Baste Duterte tungkol sa utang na loob, ito rin ba ang dahilan kung bakit in-appoint ni dating Pangulong Duterte si Michael Yang bilang economic adviser? Hindi ba ito pagtataksil dahil isa siyang Chinese national?” tanong ni Castro.
Si Michael Yang ay naitalaga bilang economic adviser noong 2018 ngunit napabalitang sangkot sa iba't ibang ilegal na aktibidad tulad ng illegal drug trade at Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).
Nabanggit din si Yang sa Pharmally scandal, kung saan umano’y minanipula ang bilyon-bilyong pondo ng gobyerno para sa COVID-19 pandemic.
Sa mga pagdinig sa Kongreso, madalas ding nababanggit si Yang Jianxin, kapatid ni Michael Yang, na inamin nang siya ay isang Chinese citizen na ginamit ang pagkakakilanlan ng isang Pilipino para magnegosyo sa bansa.
Habang si Jianxin ay nakakulong na sa mga opisyal ng Bureau of Immigration, si Michael Yang ay nananatiling malaya at hindi pa nahuhuli ng mga awtoridad simula 2024.
Samantalang si Yang ay patuloy na nakakalaya, si Rodrigo Duterte naman ay kasalukuyang nahaharap sa kaso ng crimes against humanity sa The Hague kaugnay ng drug war na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ng hindi bababa sa 6,000 katao, kung saan ang ilang ulat ay nagsasabing maaaring umabot ito sa 30,000.
