According to <strong data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"775\">Chair Eleandro Jesus Madrona<\/strong>, if Congress passes the <strong data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"818\">repeal<\/strong> of the travel tax, the exemption bills will no longer be needed.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"1215\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Agencies like <strong data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"925\">TIEZA<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"935\">CHED<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"948\">NCCA<\/strong> are the main beneficiaries of the travel tax. Under the current scheme, 50% of the collection goes to TIEZA, 40% to CHED, and 10% to NCCA. The funds are used for <strong data-start=\"1114\" data-end=\"1132\">infrastructure<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1134\" data-end=\"1155\">tourism education<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1197\">cultural development projects<\/strong> nationwide.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1586\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to <strong data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1249\">TIEZA COO Mark Lapid<\/strong>, a large portion of the travel tax is used to rehabilitate <strong data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1334\">heritage sites<\/strong>, ecotourism destinations, and other facilities. In 2025, the government collected <strong data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1438\">P8.7 billion<\/strong>, of which 96% came from economy-class passengers. If the travel tax is completely eliminated, it is possible that <strong data-start=\"1560\" data-end=\"1583\">300 TIEZA employees<\/strong> will lose their jobs.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"2042\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Meanwhile, <strong data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1645\">CHED Chair Shirley Agrupis<\/strong> explained that the <strong data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1697\">Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF)<\/strong> relies on the travel tax for 85.6%. This supports <strong data-start=\"1755\" data-end=\"1779\">5.4 million students<\/strong> in 1,906 higher education institutions and <strong data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1849\">1.6 million scholars<\/strong>.
