According to prosecutor <strong data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"470\">Edward Jeremy<\/strong>, while he was president, Duterte openly named individuals linked to illegal drugs\u2014many of whom later became victims of bloody operations. The hearing also showed a video in which Duterte can be heard saying that he is the <strong data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"778\">\u201csole person responsible\u201d<\/strong> for the events.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"1260\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">On the second day of the hearing, the prosecution presented testimonies, including allegations that young people were arrested, their heads were allegedly wrapped in packing tape, and then strangled to death. The prosecution camp insisted that the so-called <strong data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1080\">\u201cDuterte list\u201d<\/strong> was a death register. According to them, the poor are often targeted because they are the least able to file complaints against the police.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1808\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Duterte faces <strong data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1329\">three counts of crimes against humanity<\/strong>, in connection with at least <strong data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1400\">76 killings from 2013 to 2018<\/strong>. However, prosecutors said these were only a small fraction of the thousands of deaths linked to his anti-drug campaign when he was mayor of Davao City and later president. According to his lawyer, he remains <strong data-start=\"2439\" data-end=\"2460\">completely innocent<\/strong>, and his statements then can only be considered <strong data-start=\"2519\" data-end=\"2547\">\u201cbluster and hyperbole.\u201d<\/strong> It was also asserted that the former president repeatedly ordered authorities to use force only if it was for <strong data-start=\"2677\" data-end=\"2693\">self-defense<\/strong>.
