In the first phase, <strong data-start=\"571\" data-end=\"618\">only 50 people in each direction<\/strong> will be allowed to pass through.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"643\" data-end=\"882\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The opening follows Israeli forces taking control of the entrance to Egypt in May 2024. In this <strong data-start=\"750\" data-end=\"772\">pilot phase<\/strong>, the operation is focused on <strong data-start=\"800\" data-end=\"820\">humanitarian aid<\/strong> and is not yet open for regular travel by people.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"1105\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Egyptian media, <strong data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"949\">only 50 people will be allowed to cross<\/strong> from Gaza to Egypt and vice versa on the first day. Many Palestinians are lined up on the Egyptian side, waiting to enter their territory.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1385\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">One \u200b\u200bof the beneficiaries of the opening, Mohammed Nassir, a Palestinian who was caught up in the war and had his leg amputated, said: \"<strong data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1382\">The Rafah crossing is our lifeline. I need to undergo surgery that is not available in Gaza but is available abroad.<\/strong>\"<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1653\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The Rafah operation is open for approximately <strong data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1462\">six hours a day<\/strong>, allowing residents and <strong data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1527\">humanitarian assistance<\/strong> that are critical in the current situation.
