According to <strong data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"680\">Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Ed Tumangan<\/strong>, the victims were sleeping when a large rock hit them.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"1038\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"784\">The retrieval operation was difficult<\/strong> due to the <strong data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"826\">large rocks and walls<\/strong> that covered the victims. It took five hours before their remains were recovered, past 7 a.m. \u201c<strong data-start=\"936\" data-end=\"1020\">There were seven inside the house, two did not survive, next to each other in the bedroom<\/strong>,\u201d said Tumangan.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1279\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to the MDRRMO, the male victim is 22 years old while his female companion is 19 years old, a resident of Pasig City. The female reportedly works for the owner of the house. The <strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1253\">five survivors were uninjured<\/strong> and were rescued safely.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1281\" data-end=\"1581\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The landslide was caused by <strong data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1327\">softened soil<\/strong> caused by continuous rains. \u201c<strong data-start=\"1363\" data-end=\"1446\">The house was behind a mountain, there was a wall and rocks that hit them<\/strong>,\u201d Tumangan explained. Although the rain was not heavy when the landslide occurred, the <strong data-start=\"1549\" data-end=\"1569\">shearline effect<\/strong> had already accumulated in the area.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1583\" data-end=\"1793\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Currently, according to Tumangan, the rains in Matnog are only being experienced in gusty conditions. <strong data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1710\">MDRRMO's monitoring is continuing for the safety of residents and to prevent further disasters in the area.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dalawa ang patay habang lima ang nakaligtas sa isang landslide sa Barangay Bariis, Matnog, pasado alas-12 ng madaling araw, Enero 17, 2026.
