Because of this, the center of discussion has been <strong data-start=\"417\" data-end=\"439\">DOTr Memo 2026-001<\/strong>, a new directive that aims to streamline the existing processes for handling <strong data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"554\">traffic violations<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"558\" data-end=\"578\">driver\u2019s license<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"581\" data-end=\"951\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Under the existing law, only the <strong data-start=\"611\" data-end=\"647\">Land Transportation Office (LTO)<\/strong> and its <strong data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"682\">deputized enforcers<\/strong> have the power to confiscate licenses. Previously, motorists were given <strong data-start=\"764\" data-end=\"784\">15 calendar days<\/strong> to rectify the violation, including weekends and holidays\u2014a system often considered burdensome and inhumane for many road users.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"1406\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">With the issuance of <strong data-start=\"968\" data-end=\"990\">DOTr Memo 2026-001<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1072\">suspension of confiscation of driver\u2019s license<\/strong> for traffic violations was temporarily implemented. Instead, the license will be placed on <strong data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1165\">\u201calert\u201d status<\/strong> while the LTO reviews its policies in line with the government\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1228\" data-end=\"1254\">digitalization efforts<\/strong>. It is important to note that the word used is <em data-start=\"1314\" data-end=\"1326\">suspension<\/em>, so the reinstatement of confiscation is still possible when new policies are in place.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1408\" data-end=\"1710\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">One \u200b\u200bof the most important changes is the new <strong data-start=\"1456\" data-end=\"1493\">15 working days settlement window<\/strong>. This means that weekends, holidays, and work suspensions will no longer be counted. The clock will only run when the LTO is open\u2014a move that is considered fairer and more practical for motorists.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"2138\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">However, the DOTr's reminder is clear: failure to settle the violation within <strong data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1816\">15 working days<\/strong> may result in <strong data-start=\"1843\" data-end=\"1895\">automatic suspension or revocation of the license<\/strong>.
