of the Ombudsman<\/strong> dismisses reports that <strong data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"478\">Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez,<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"482\" data-end=\"500\">Jaypee Mendoza<\/strong>, former engineers of the <strong data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"534\">DPWH<\/strong>, intend to recant their statements regarding alleged <strong data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"638\">corruption in flood control projects<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"643\" data-end=\"912\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to <strong data-start=\"652\" data-end=\"688\">Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano<\/strong>, \u201c<strong data-start=\"691\" data-end=\"711\">Seems like noise<\/strong> to us,\u201d when asked if they had received any information about the possible recantation of the three, especially the statements involving some <strong data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"885\">legislators<\/strong> involved in the scandal.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"1089\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Clavano added, \u201c<strong data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"979\">We will only rely on sworn statements.<\/strong> Besides, it will also affect their <strong data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1061\">admission to the Witness Protection Program<\/strong> if they recant.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1441\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The three former engineers are considered <strong data-start=\"1106\" data-end=\"1129\">protected witnesses<\/strong>, according to <strong data-start=\"1169\" data-end=\"1204\">Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla<\/strong> in September 2025, when he was still head of the <strong data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1285\">Department of Justice (DOJ)<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1340\">Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon<\/strong> also said in December that Alcantara was \u201c<strong data-start=\"1377\" data-end=\"1403\">provisionally admitted<\/strong>\u201d to the <strong data-start=\"1408\" data-end=\"1438\">Witness Protection Program<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1443\" data-end=\"1707\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to <strong data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1499\">Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson<\/strong>, former DPWH officials may be liable under the law regarding <strong data-start=\"1546\" data-end=\"1557\">perjury<\/strong> if they recant.
