Last year, <strong data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"1962\">President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.<\/strong> boasted of the country's move to use <strong data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2018\">nuclear science<\/strong> to produce <strong data-start=\"2037\" data-end=\"2071\">durable and commercially viable<\/strong> construction materials from plastic waste.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"1206\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"866\">The celebration<\/strong> began with the <strong data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"908\">Sinulog sa Dakbayan<\/strong>, in which <strong data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"975\">17 dancing contingents from different barangays<\/strong> in the city participated. It was preceded by a street dancing competition and grand ritual showdown, where <strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1137\">Lumad Basakanon of Barangay Basak Pardo<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1141\" data-end=\"1176\">Lambo Mabolo of Barangay Mabolo<\/strong> won their respective categories.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1605\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to <strong data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1242\">Mayor Nestor Archival<\/strong>, \u201c<strong data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1277\">Everything is going smoothly<\/strong>.\u201d He also announced that they expect the festival to draw <strong data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1385\">four to five million spectators<\/strong>, including local and foreign tourists. The winners of the preliminary rounds will compete in the <strong data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1508\">Sinulog Mardi Gras<\/strong> this coming <strong data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1544\">Sunday, January 18<\/strong>, where more than <strong data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1590\">40 dancing contingents<\/strong> will participate.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1909\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Aside from street dancing, there are other activities scheduled throughout the Sinulog week. These aim to showcase the city's rich culture and traditions, as well as encourage tourism. <strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1871\">Colorful parades, cultural shows, and rituals<\/strong> are some of the featured programs.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1911\" data-end=\"2284\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Despite the festivities, the public is reminded to be <strong data-start=\"1985\" data-end=\"2011\">cautious and responsible<\/strong>, especially in crowded areas.
