Residents have been advised to <strong data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"523\">avoid the area around the volcano<\/strong>, as rocks the size of cars are falling from Mayon's lava dome.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"967\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Phivolcs chief <strong data-start=\"638\" data-end=\"663\">Dr. Teresito Bacolcol<\/strong>, the agency recorded <strong data-start=\"692\" data-end=\"785\">one volcanic earthquake, 162 rockfall events, and 50 pyroclastic density currents (PDCs)<\/strong> on the morning of January 8. He explained that the <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"865\">continuous supply of magma<\/strong> is causing the lava dome to grow, which becomes unstable and results in <strong data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"964\">rockfall events<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"969\" data-end=\"1213\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The rockfalls were recorded in <strong data-start=\"1000\" data-end=\"1034\">Miisi, Bonga, and Basud Gullies<\/strong>, to the south, east, and southeast of the volcano near <strong data-start=\"1095\" data-end=\"1131\">Daraga, Legaspi, and Sto. Domingo<\/strong>. Bacolcol explained: \u201c<strong data-start=\"1157\" data-end=\"1209\">It was like a car\u2026 That rockfall was that big.<\/strong>\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1520\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He also warned the public of the danger of <strong data-start=\"1260\" data-end=\"1292\">pyroclastic density currents<\/strong>, which reach speeds of <strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1351\">hundreds of kilometers per hour<\/strong>. \u201c<strong data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1452\">This is what is called a current in Bicol, like an avalanche of ash, rocks, and gas. Fast and dangerous<\/strong>. In the eruption in 1993, 77 people died because of it,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1522\" data-end=\"1905\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Currently, <strong data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1587\">Mayon Volcano remains at Alert Level 3<\/strong>. According to Bacolcol, Phivolcs continues to monitor <strong data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1750\">for possible increases in volcanic quakes, PDCs, sulfur dioxide emissions, lava flows, or lava fountaining<\/strong>. \u201c<strong data-start=\"1753\" data-end=\"1791\">We have not seen any lava flows<\/strong>.
