Under Senate Bill 1493 or the <strong data-start=\"395\" data-end=\"438\">BPO Workers\u2019 Welfare and Protection Act<\/strong>, it aims to strengthen <strong data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"485\">job security<\/strong>, early access to <strong data-start=\"505\" data-end=\"525\" data-is-only-node=\"\">medical benefits<\/strong>, and set the <strong data-start=\"541\" data-end=\"561\">entry-level wage<\/strong> according to the <strong data-start=\"570\" data-end=\"592\">family living wage<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"868\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Tulfo, this measure is important for <strong data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"661\">youths<\/strong> and others seeking employment in the <strong data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"713\">BPO sector<\/strong>, because it not only strengthens existing <strong data-start=\"764\" data-end=\"783\">labor standards<\/strong>, but also provides additional <strong data-start=\"819\" data-end=\"833\">protection<\/strong> for occupational hazards.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"1152\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The bill includes <strong data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"917\">automatic suspension<\/strong> of BPO operations during <strong data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"992\">typhoons, earthquakes, fires, or other calamities<\/strong>. It also allows <strong data-start=\"1014\" data-end=\"1037\">voluntary reporting<\/strong> to work during heavy rain or bad weather, and <strong data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1116\">hazard pay<\/strong> for those who choose to work.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1384\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">On the issue of <strong data-start=\"1167\" data-end=\"1183\">job security<\/strong>, it is stated that BPO workers will become <strong data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1246\">regular employees<\/strong> after six months of probation, or immediately after <strong data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1324\">training<\/strong> if their training is shorter than six months.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1741\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Tulfo also added that the minimum entry-level salary will not be less than P36,000, along with immediate medical benefits upon hiring.
