The 2025-2026 Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY)<\/strong> has released its Top 10 finalists<\/strong>, and surprisingly, nearly 40%<\/strong> of the list are from non-Japanese brands<\/strong>. From a field of 35 vehicles, 60 jurors from the Japanese media have selected ten to compete for the most prestigious award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of the ten finalists, only six<\/strong> are from Japanese brands such as Suzuki, Subaru, Daihatsu, Toyota, Nissan,<\/strong> and Honda<\/strong>. The remaining four are from BMW, Hyundai, Peugeot,<\/strong> and Volkswagen<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the most talked about is the all-new Subaru Forester<\/strong>. The new model uses the more rigid Subaru Global Platform<\/strong>, has full inner frame construction<\/strong>, and has wider structural adhesives<\/strong>. It has a full hybrid system<\/strong> with 197 hp<\/strong>, the highest since the disappearance of the turbo model. It can reach up to 1,000 km<\/strong> on a full tank and doesn't sacrifice all-wheel drive<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also a notable entry is the return of the Honda Prelude<\/strong>, which will arrive in the Philippines by 2026<\/strong>. The sports coupe uses the chassis hardware of the Civic Type R<\/strong>, making it fast, responsive, and comfortable to drive. It has a e:HEV 2.0-liter<\/strong> hybrid engine with 200 hp<\/strong> and 315 Nm<\/strong> torque, along with their new S+ Shift system<\/strong> for simulated gearshifts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Top 10 also includes Suzuki e-Vitara<\/strong>, Daihatsu Move<\/strong>, Toyota Crown Estate<\/strong>, Nissan Leaf<\/strong>, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe<\/strong>, Hyundai Inster<\/strong>, Peugeot 3008<\/strong>, and Volkswagen ID.Buzz.
