According to Director <strong data-start=\"586\" data-end=\"607\">Teresito Bacolcol<\/strong>, it is not possible to predict the exact time of an earthquake, but there is a <strong data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"693\">recurrence interval<\/strong> or between major movements of the <strong data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"755\">West Valley Fault<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"1189\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The <strong data-start=\"764\" data-end=\"777\">'Big One'<\/strong> is expected to be a <strong data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"820\">7.2 magnitude earthquake<\/strong> that could cause widespread damage in the cities of <strong data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"946\">Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, and Muntinlupa<\/strong>, as well as <strong data-start=\"963\" data-end=\"1000\">Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna<\/strong>. The <strong data-start=\"1021\" data-end=\"1042\">West Valley Fault<\/strong> last moved in the year <strong data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1063\">1658<\/strong>. Based on this <strong data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1113\">400 to 600 years<\/strong>, it is possible that a strong earthquake will occur again before or after <strong data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1186\">2058<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1469\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Bacolcol explained that as <strong data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1248\">2058 approaches<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1254\" data-end=\"1277\">chance<\/strong> of an earthquake occurring increases. But there is <strong data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1328\">uncertainty<\/strong>, so it could happen <strong data-start=\"1377\" data-end=\"1390\">earlier<\/strong> or <strong data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1405\">later<\/strong>. Therefore, the reminder to be <strong data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1456\">ready<\/strong> continues.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1836\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He added that <strong data-start=\"1507\" data-end=\"1532\">successive earthquakes<\/strong> are normal because there are <strong data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1577\">180 active fault segments<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1581\" data-end=\"1602\">6 active trenches<\/strong> in the country. On average, <strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1644\">30 earthquakes<\/strong> are recorded per day, but most of them are not felt. The strong earthquakes in <strong data-start=\"1743\" data-end=\"1790\">La Union, Cebu, Zambales, and Davao Oriental<\/strong> come from different faults and trenches.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"2118\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Bacolcol's advice is to know the <strong data-start=\"1871\" data-end=\"1901\">hazard and evacuation areas<\/strong> in your area to be prepared in case a strong earthquake occurs.
