In Barangay Ma\u00f1o, San Remigio, about 15 sinkholes were immediately seen after the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"878\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to <em data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"642\">Science Secretary Renato Solidum Jr.<\/em>, this is normal because most of the soil in Cebu is made of <em data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"714\">limestone<\/em>. Limestone is easily punctured when water passes through it and is especially susceptible to earthquakes. When the soil cover is thin, sinkholes can easily form.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"1176\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has issued a <em data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"920\">subsidence threat advisory<\/em> for the towns of Bogo, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio and Tabogon due to confirmed sinkholes and land subsidence. In San Remigio, which experienced an Intensity 7, it is estimated that over 100 sinkholes were discovered.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1383\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Solidum's advice is to use <em data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1238\">ground-penetrating radar<\/em> to determine if there are sinkholes under houses. Also, <em data-start=\"1319\" data-end=\"1337\">damaged roads<\/em> should be repaired immediately so that <em data-start=\"1363\" data-end=\"1380\">rescue and aid<\/em> are not hampered.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1385\" data-end=\"1585\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">He added that roads need to be reinforced with steel and connected to a <em data-start=\"1472\" data-end=\"1489\">drainage system<\/em>.
