I've told my parents for a long time that I'd like to get married when I'm <strong data-start=\"576\" data-end=\"604\">30<\/strong> because I want to achieve my dreams before getting into a serious relationship. But recently, my parents suddenly asked me out on a date with a girl.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"1097\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"793\">The situation,<\/strong> both our family and the girl's family are <strong data-start=\"803\" data-end=\"837\">conservative<\/strong>. Because of this, <strong data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"916\">we are not allowed to talk privately<\/strong>, even if it's just a simple chat or call. They want us to always have our parents with us when we talk. So they thought of a way to do it <strong data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1066\">a video call<\/strong> with the girl's family.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1485\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The problem was, I overslept that day and couldn't attend the call. Because of that, <strong data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1216\">my father got really angry<\/strong>. He said that <strong data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1274\">we were embarrassed by the girl's family<\/strong> and that I didn't seem to be taking everything seriously. That's when I felt a pang of <strong data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1355\">of conscience<\/strong>. I thought, maybe I did something wrong and maybe I hurt the girl and her family's feelings even if I didn't mean to.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1899\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">But as time goes on, <strong data-start=\"1510\" data-end=\"1548\">the situation becomes more difficult<\/strong>. My family wants me to enter into an <strong data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"1609\">arranged marriage<\/strong>. They force me to choose the woman they have chosen because they say it is for my good. What hurts is, <strong data-start=\"1711\" data-end=\"1763\">they don't like the women I like<\/strong> because they don't share the same religion and culture. Whenever I mention someone else I like, they always say it's not allowed.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1901\" data-end=\"2314\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Now, I feel like I'm <strong data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"1965\">stuck between two choices<\/strong>. If I follow my family's wishes, I might lose the chance to be with the person I truly love. But if I fight for my own feelings, I might <strong data-start=\"2146\" data-end=\"2173\">hurt my family<\/strong> and make them think I don't value them. It's hard because both are important to me \u2014 my <strong data-start=\"2269\" data-end=\"2283\">family<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"2291\" data-end=\"2311\">woman I love<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2751\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2357\">The question that keeps coming to mind:<\/strong> Who should I choose? The <strong data-start=\"2393\" data-end=\"2425\">woman my family has rejected<\/strong> for whom I have no feelings yet, or the <strong data-start=\"2463\" data-end=\"2490\">woman I really like<\/strong>, even though she doesn't meet my parents' standards? I know many can relate to this, especially those from families with strict beliefs.
