The couple is being investigated for alleged irregularities in flood control projects worth millions of pesos.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"658\" data-end=\"1022\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">According to Sotto, it is unfair to give them government protection while they are not returning the public money they allegedly took. He insisted that to become <strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"845\">state witnesses<\/strong>, they must tell the truth and return their earnings. He further said that their statements in the Senate and the House differed, making it appear that they are not being honest.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1024\" data-end=\"1295\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Marcoleta, on the other hand, insisted that rejecting the recommendation could damage the <strong data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1140\">integrity of the investigation<\/strong>. According to him, the committee promised to help Discaya due to the threat to their lives and families. That is why he asked that the matter be taken seriously.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1648\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla supported Sotto's stance. He explained that Discaya can only be a <strong data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1440\">state witness<\/strong> if they are not the main culprits and if they return the money collected from the projects. Based on the law, <strong data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1615\">restitution or return of money<\/strong> cannot be postponed.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1885\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">For now, Sotto is still awaiting the recommendation of <strong data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1761\">Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson<\/strong>, as the new head of the <strong data-start=\"1787\" data-end=\"1812\">Blue Ribbon Committee<\/strong>, regarding the request to include Discaya in the witness protection program.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ang Senate President Vicente Sotto III ay tumanggi sa hiling ni Senator Rodante Marcoleta na isama sina Sarah at Curlee Discaya sa Witness Protection Program ng DOJ.
