According to <strong data-start=\"581\" data-end=\"617\">Education Secretary Sonny Angara<\/strong>, the cases have been filed with the prosecutor\u2019s office and <strong data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"705\">demand letters<\/strong> have been sent to the schools.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"944\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The total amount involved in the fraud reached <strong data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"752\">\u20b161.9 million<\/strong>. According to the DepEd, the cases include <strong data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"847\">estafa<\/strong> through <strong data-start=\"866\" data-end=\"896\">falsification of documents<\/strong> and violation of the <strong data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"941\">Cybercrime Prevention Act<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"1086\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">There is a possibility that more schools will be charged because there are other cases being investigated by the <strong data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1074\">legal department<\/strong> of DepEd.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1392\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Last July, DepEd also filed charges against several school officials involved in the same issue. In addition, the agency has recovered more than <strong data-start=\"1250\" data-end=\"1265\">\u20b1100 million<\/strong> from fake and false claims, including <strong data-start=\"1312\" data-end=\"1326\">\u20b165 million<\/strong> refunded from 54 schools that were removed from the program.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1560\" class=\" translation-block\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Based on the DepEd investigation, they failed to provide subsidies amounting to <strong data-start=\"1437\" data-end=\"1452\">\u20b1200 million<\/strong> for almost <strong data-start=\"1504\" data-end=\"1529\">22,000 ghost students<\/strong> during the 2023\u20132024 school year.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ang Department of Education (DepEd) ay nagsampa ng kasong kriminal laban sa pitong pribadong paaralan na umano\u2019y nag-claim ng pondo para sa mga \u201cghost\u201d beneficiaries sa senior high school voucher program.
